On the Expert Interview Series from Selling Your Canadian Business, Jay Davis tells host David Prowse (Shaughnessy Group) why the path to a profitable business and the path to a successful exit are the same: the four-to-six-weeks-away test, plays and playbooks, and the five operational KPIs in the order they must be measured.

Case Studies

Real transformations.

Short, honest stories: what the business looked like before, what was built, and what changed.

Fulkrem client · Building products · Canada and US
$2M → $9Mrevenue in under three years

Building a sales engine in two countries.

A founder-led building-products company wanted to grow across Canada and the United States.

  • Built sales teams in Canada and the US on an independent-contractor model, so the business could cover new territory without the fixed cost of a full in-house team.
  • Trained the team in value-based and strategic selling, so they sold on the value of the solution rather than on price.
Fulkrem client · Industrial manufacturer · Canada and US
$70M → $90Mrevenue in under three years

Selling the whole solution, not the part.

An established manufacturer was ready for its next stage of growth, in Canada and in a new US market.

  • Built outside sales teams in Canada and stood up a new team in the US.
  • Moved the business to complete-solution selling: product, finishing and installation offered as one package instead of separate line items.
  • Trained the team in value-based and strategic selling.
  • Led the integration of a newly acquired business into the parent company.

Client names are withheld for confidentiality. Results show revenue growth over the course of each engagement.

Leadership track record · Before Fulkrem

Getinge Canada: turning a medical-device business around, from the inside.

Before founding Fulkrem, Roy De Medeiros spent more than 25 years leading sales and operations in the medical-device industry. This story is from his time at Getinge, the global medical technology group. It isn't a Fulkrem client engagement, but it's where the Fulkrem playbook was proven: structure, the right team, and systems that let a business perform without depending on one person.

portfolio led after the global merger

The situation

In 2014 the President of Getinge Canada left. Revenue was declining, receivables were badly overdue and the business was under pressure to cut costs. Roy stepped in as Interim Managing Director.

What he did

He turned the business around and grew revenue from $24M to $32M in 18 months. Through the global Getinge, Maquet and ArjoHuntleigh merger he merged Getinge Canada with Arjo, stepped into Maquet when its President left, and ran a change management program that stopped the loss of key people.

What followed

In 2017 he helped separate Arjo's IT, CRM and staff when it became its own company, then took on the combined Getinge Canada Group and Surgical Workflows: a $60M portfolio with project management, contracts, customer service, installations and marketing reporting to him.

Where it started: Turning Cost into Healthcare™. Roy created this program in Canada to fix the flow of hospital sterile processing departments: removing bottlenecks, adding emergency capacity and cutting utility and consumable use. Overtime and staff injuries fell to zero, sick time dropped significantly, and the savings paid back a full department modernization in under three years. Getinge asked him to take it to the US and Europe, which led to his interim leadership roles.

Partner case study · Search visibility

More doors into the same search.

Fulkrem partner Joel Mandelbaum's agency, Quantum Results, builds focused, client-owned mini websites (“Content Properties”) around one service, location or buyer question. Each carries the client's brand and contact paths and links back to the main site. In search captures supplied by Quantum Results, three clients in three industries held several of the visible organic results for a high-intent local search.
